Vantage Point and Perception: A Look Back at 1st Quarter 2017

Let’s take a brief look back at what I believe was probably the biggest reality check for the majority of America in the 1st Quarter of 2017.

The Trump Inauguration and The Women’s March on Washington.

These 2 events were less than 24 hours from each other and both took place on the National Mall in Washington, DC (actually, the Women’s March was International but that may be an alternative fact in 2017).

I’m going to keep this simple…

Perception: a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression.

Vantage Point: a position or standpoint from which something is viewed or considered.

What the 1st Quarter of 2017 reinforced:

Everyone’s perception and vantage point are not the same. The same country that elected Barack Obama elected Donald Trump four short years later. The same country that elected its first [white] female presidential candidate of a major political party only received 47% of the total white female vote nationwide (many of those female Trump voters attended the Women's March on Washington).

What many Americans thought they understood about their neighbors, they actually didn’t.

What many Americans understood about America for most of their lives was shown to be real, once again…

As we go into the 2nd Quarter of 2017, what will you be looking for from your vantage point?
